Rhododendron - Purpureum Elegans
Part of the Iron-Clad series. An elepidote, tall growing Rhododendron. 2 3/4″ flowers are dark blue-purple with a yellowish-brown blotch. Blooms midseason in trusses of 16-18 flowers. Grows 5′ high by 4′ wide in a 10 year period.

Origin
Parentage unknown. Rhododendron catawbiense hybrid or selection. Introduced by H. Waterer of England before 1850.
Special Notes
Exposure: Morning Sun, afternoon shade or all day filtered light. Protect from the hot mid-day sun. Protect from the prevailing winter winds, plant in a sheltered location.
Soil: A very acidic, moist but well draining soil is required. Avoid heavy compacted soils such as clay.
Maintenance: Selective pruning right after flowering in done. Dead-heading is recommended for increased flower production the following year.
