An elepidote, medium/tall growing Rhododendron. 3″ wavy dark purple flowers with a light purple throat are borne in trusses of 12-16 flowers. Blooms midseason. Vigorous, grows 4′-6′ high by 4′-5′ wide in a 10 year period.

Origin
Seedling from Rhododendron 'Purple Splendour' (open pollinated). Introduced by Robert L. Blough and Margaret A. Blough of Pennsylvania in 1974.
Special Notes
Exposure: Morning Sun, afternoon shade or all day filtered light. Protect from the hot mid-day sun. Protect from the prevailing winter winds, plant in a sheltered location.
Soil: A very acidic, moist but well draining soil is required. Avoid heavy compacted soils such as clay.
Maintenance: Selective pruning right after flowering in done. Dead-heading is recommended for increased flower production the following year.
